📕 E-BookNoam Chomsky rightly distinguished a surface grammar from a deep syntax. The only question is whether he uncovered the latter and whether his ‘transformation rules’ adequately describe the relationship between the two. These questions must be answered negatively.
A dichotomous either-or procedure, as Chomsky and his successors apply in variations, is fundamentally unsuited to describe the multi-valued reflection logic of language. Nevertheless, the basic idea remains valid that there are universal sentence structure patterns, indeed a sentence structure formula, hidden beneath the chaos of infinitely many possible sentences. Under the colorful diversity of mother tongues lie ‘world-language’ structures. A school grammar of a new style that counts on pleasure in ‘human logic.’
