Kritik der integralen Vernunft — Band I
Grammatik der menschlichen Bewusstseinsvermögen
📕 E-BookA philosophical psychology that does not explain consciousness but makes its inner structure visible. Volume I of Johannes Heinrichs’ major late work — an attempt to systematically reconnect philosophy and psychology after a century of estrangement.
“Critique” here means nothing pejorative but — in the sense of Kant’s reflexive turn — the epistemological survey of the founding elements of a discipline. Unlike “pure” reason, however, nothing human may remain foreign to integral reason.
Heinrichs begins from a thesis suppressed in contemporary philosophy: self-consciousness is lived reflexion — self-accompaniment, self-referentiality. From this “radical capacity” he derives, in critical engagement with C. G. Jung, the four functions of consciousness: perception, thinking, feeling, and intuition.
The structure of this volume
- The functional circle of the cognitive faculties — the four cognitive roots and their mutual interpenetration, including a “grammar of feelings”
- The functional circle of practice — knowing, valuing, willing, acting; in dialogue with Maslow’s hierarchy of needs
- The semiotic levels — action, language, art, and mysticism as ascending levels of signs
- Supramental consciousness — a critical survey of spiritual and “integral” models of consciousness (with a critique of Wilber’s “Spiral Dynamics”)
Methodologically, the book is carried by Heinrichs’ reflexion-logical procedure of dialectical subsumption, here applied to consciousness itself.
“There are books that are simply necessary and long overdue. […] These philosophical foundations of psychology are among them.” — from the foreword by Prof. Dr. Franz-Theo Gottwald (translated from the German)
